Hello,

Help Children in Africa

91²Ö¿â has worked in Africa for more than 60 years. Today, with millions of children and families in Africa already struggling to cope with the impacts of conflict and climate change, COVID19 is yet another shock undermining their livelihoods and pushing them towards acute hunger and malnutrition. In places like South Sudan and the Sahel, ongoing conflict has hindered families’ access to food for years. Across areas of East and Southern Africa, climate change has triggered harsher and more frequent droughts.

Right now, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are facing the third severe drought episode in a decade. West Africa is facing its worst food crisis in a decade, with 27 million people not knowing where their next meal will come from.

91²Ö¿â is responding to the immense needs of vulnerable African children and families by helping to improve access to healthcare and education. We are also working tirelessly to keep children protected from the harms of conflict, including child trafficking, forced early marriage and child labor.

But we can’t do any of this lifesaving work without your support.

Sudan

Even before fighting in Sudan broke out on April 15, more than 3 million women and girls in Sudan were at risk of gender-based violence. This number has since climbed to an estimated 4.2 million people. The eruption of fighting comes as Sudan was already facing its worst-ever humanitarian crisis, with existing conflict, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and economic degradation already leaving 15.8 million people in need.

Somalia

In 2011, famine in Somalia killed 260,000 people, half of whom were children. Today, as Somalia is crippled by its worst drought in 40 years as well as rising food prices and conflict, the UN is warning of famine in parts of Somalia within months.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

January 2019 marked the start of the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history. With children in DRC at great risk, our teams worked to reach over 1 million people, two thirds of them African children, with community education and training, water and sanitation facilities and treatment.

Kenya

Today, over 3.5 million people in Kenya are suffering from extreme hunger. In September 2021, Kenya officially declared drought in parts of the country a national disaster. As reservoirs and dams dry up, many communities can no longer survive on farming, fishing or livestock. LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR WORK IN KENYA

South Sudan

South Sudan has been frequently beset by conflict and, coupled with drought and flooding, this has led to the displacement of 1.47 million people, who live in temporary camps with basic shelter and often non-existent sanitation. Massive swarms of desert locusts currently pose a grave threat to the more than six million South Sudanese people suffering from food insects across the region. Our teams are working to address the urgent needs of children and families in South Sudan.
